Sweden's restaurants, bars, pubs, and cafes went mostly smokefree on June 1, 2005. The law unfortunately allows for smoking rooms, so workers in these establishments do not have occupational health protection from secondhand smoke.
Swedes are overwhelmingly supportive of smokefree indoor air. Even before the
law took effect, opinion polls showed that 85%
of respondents said they would eat-out more often or as often once restaurants
went smokefree, and 77% of respondents said they were in favor of smokefree
bars.
